Emile Smith Rowe’s form since earning his place in the Arsenal team has convinced manager Mikel Arteta to abandon his January transfer plans, according to a report.
Smith Rowe has only made seven appearances this term but has made a strong impact on his team. Indeed, he has proved a key part of the Gunners’ resurgence from their recent poor run.
The 20-year-old has started each of the last three Premier League games. In that time, he has provided two assists to help Arsenal clinch three successive wins.
What’s more, his top-flight influence has come after three Europa League outings in which he contributed to three goals.
As such, Marca claims that Arteta has now called off his January hunt for Real Madrid midfielder Isco.
The Spanish manager had earmarked his compatriot as a chief target to add creativity to his team. Indeed, Arsenal’s recent run without a win came mainly down to a lack of initiative going forward.
However, Marca says that Smith Rowe’s ‘explosion’ in form has ended the interest in the 28-year-old Madrid star.
Arteta does not want to hinder his young midfielder’s progress by bringing in a player of the same ilk.
In any case, Isco has reportedly received firm interest from Sevilla which could prove ‘decisive’.
The midfielder has worked with Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui when the latter managed Spain and Marca adds that he has fond memories of his performances under his fellow Spaniard.
Smith Rowe had made appearances for Arsenal while Unai Emery was in the dugout. In January, he signed up to a half-season loan at Championship side Huddersfield Town.
What’s more, he only earned a promotion to the Gunners’ senior ranks last summer.

Meanwhile, reports elsewhere claim that Arsenal are keen on QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng.
Dieng has started 20 games in the Championship this season.
He has kept four clean sheets and has only conceded more than two goals in two games.
