Aston Villa, Everton on alert as defender put up for sale for €10m

Aston Villa and Everton are reportedly among the clubs circling for Christian Luyindama, who has been put up for sale by Galatasaray.

Luyindama has been plying his trade in Turkey since January 2019, when he moved from Belgian side Standard Liege.

The DR Congo defender has had some injury problems since his move, although he has featured more heavily this season.

Even so, it seems his club are preparing themselves for a sale. According to Sampiy, Galatasaray have made Luyindama available for transfer.

The Super Lig side are looking for a fee of around €10m to sell the defender. That has put Aston Villa and Everton on alert.

Neither club is yet to make an official offer, but could be monitoring the situation. They both have plenty of options in defence, but may consider another reinforcement – with Luyindama also able to play as a defensive midfielder.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2022, hence Galatasaray’s willingness to do a deal.

The link with Everton is nothing new, as there were rumours of their interest back in the summer. Nothing materialised, but Luyindama may still be on their minds.

However, Villa’s interest could pose a threat to their hopes of signing him – especially if they sell Bjorn Engels, who is wanted in Belgium.

Such a transfer may force Villa to sign a replacement, with Luyindama now taking his place on their wishlist.

Villa set transfer priority

Dean Smith

Despite the links with Luyindama emerging, it was recently claimed that Villa’s main focus for the January transfer window would be to bring in David Brooks.

The attacking midfielder dropped down to the Championship with Bournemouth in 2020, but has shown his quality in the second division again.

Brooks retains an ambition to play in the Premier League. He would like to help Bournemouth regain promotion, but may have to consider a transfer.

Villa would be a prime suitor, according to the Mirror, so could test Bournemouth’s resolve.
