Celtic ask Liverpool to sanction another loan exit for out-of-favour winger

Celtic have made a late move for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson but cannot afford to buy him permanently, according to reports in Scotland.

Wilson returned to Liverpool this summer after a loan spell at Bournemouth. However, he was never expected to reintegrate into the Liverpool first team.

Hence, it came as a surprise when Wilson played in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal recently. In a cruel twist of fate, he missed the decisive penalty.

Despite that disappointment, a lack of suitors for Wilson meant there were rumours he could end up staying at Anfield.

Leeds had considered him earlier in the summer before backing down, while Burnley withdrew their interest after Liverpool turned down a £12m bid.

However, a new suitor has emerged for the Wales international on deadline day. According to the Glasgow Times, Celtic have asked about Wilson.

The Scottish champions want to take him on loan for the season. Even though Liverpool would prefer a permanent sale, they are aware that no club is likely to meet their £15m asking price.

Therefore, the Reds could sanction the loan exit for Wilson, if only to get his wages off the books.

Celtic are keen to strengthen their wide areas, with the club also targeting West Ham’s Robert Snodgrass.

Reports on Sunday claimed that the former Scotland international could return north of the border after 12 years in England.

Liverpool find themselves in a similar situation with Marko Grujic, who spent the past couple of seasons on loan with Hertha Berlin.

Like Wilson, at this stage the Premier League champions would likely prefer to sell him permanently than send him out on another loan, but a lack of offers may force them to reconsider.

Now, the midfielder is on the verge of a return to Germany, where Werder Bremen want to sign him.
