Chelsea line up experienced replacement for Lampard, says club mole

Chelsea will look to appoint the experienced Massimiliano Allegri if they decide to cut their losses with Frank Lampard, claims a detailed report.

Chelsea have lost four of their last six games in the Premier League, with their struggles continuing with a damaging 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Consequently, the pressure is growing on Lampard. The manager was backed heavily in the summer transfer market, but despite a promising start, things have turned sour.

Chelsea have not been shy to dismiss managers in recent years. Even though Lampard is held in high regard, the club may have a big decision to make.

According to The Athletic, Lampard’s job is now “under serious threat” after the defeat to City.

And now CaughtOffside claim to have “obtained exclusive information from a member of Chelsea’s backroom staff”.

The source suggests that Lampard’s situation at Stamford Bridge is precarious.

CaughtOffside claim: “Frank’s first season in charge exceeded expectation, but its still Chelsea. And £200m plus on players unfamiliar with the temperament associated with the Premier League, especially in the current climate brings immediate pressure on an already pressurised job.

“Combine this with the lack of game time experience and pressure playing in the first team from the academy lads, unfortunately compounds Frank’s position.”

The report also criticises some of Lampard’s decisions.

“Losing 2-1 to Wolves on December 15; flying at half time with [Olivier] Giroud on a five or six goal game run and he [Lampard] subs him and puts on Tammy Abraham which completely ruins the team’s flow and we were abysmal in the second half.

“Game management and unnecessary amendments and not for the first time spoil all the hard work previously done,” the Chelsea mole said.

Lampard is short of leaders on the pitch, claims the report, despite some heavy recruitment in the summer.

No leaders for Lampard

“Frank can lead, influence, advise and guide, but he needs lieutenants to do his talking on the pitch. That’s what he’s missing,” added the source, who also suggested Lampard needs to tread carefully.

With a hint that the atmosphere is turning, the mole was also asked who Roman Abramovich may turn to.

“Who would be next? [Massimiliano] Allegri,” said the insider.

Allegri, 53,  has been out of a job since leaving Juventus at the end of the 2018/2019 season. He revealed in December 2019 that he planned to take a year off before returning to management. However, despite six Serie A titles he remains out of the game.

Back in October Allegri was mentioned as a target for Abramovich.

According to Italian outlet Quotidano Sportivo (via talkSPORT), the Chelsea owner was lining up the former Juve and AC Milan boss in case things went wrong for Lampard.
