Simeone: We'll look for solutions if we're still at Atletico Madrid next yearEFE

After a remarkable Copa del Rey upset against Segunda B side Cornella, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has left his future up in the air by casting doubt over his continuity at the club.

With Atleti having often struggled in the cup in recent years, Simeone said he would try to rectify that next season, so long as he is still at the club.

“We’ll look for solutions next year if we’re here,” said Simeone.

“Football is very changeable, but you have to be open to all possibilities. We have to be open to whatever the club decides.”

After the 1-0 away defeat, one of his worst results as Atletico coach, Simeone was keen to praise the opposition.

“We always try to win but the opposition was better, like last year. We had chances but they started very well,” said Simeone.

“They competed well and played the match they wanted to, they kept the intensity up and we have to congratulate them.

“When the other team is better than you, you have to congratulate them.”

The Argentine coach made some changes to his team for the Copa del Rey match but wouldn’t be drawn on whether those who came in had squandered an opportunity.

“It’s too soon to give an opinion, the emotions right now are about the result,” said Simeone.

“They all gave everything, but sometimes it works out and sometimes not so much.”
