This was Santosh’s seventh Dakar Rally, and he suffered the fall at the kilometre 135 mark on a gravel surface at around 11:45 local time.
Having suffered a serious head trauma, the doctors decided to place him in an induced coma to avoid risking further damage.
On Thursday, the 37-year-old will undergo a scan to ascertain the extent of his injuries.
