Exit still possible for Man Utd outcast as Euro giants consider loan swoop

Porto are interested in signing Jesse Lingard on a season-long loan from Manchester United, according to reports.

While the transfer window is closed for Premier League clubs, it remains open in Portugal until October 25th. Therefore, players can still move to teams in that league.

Porto and Man Utd have already done business this week, with Alex Telles moving to Old Trafford on deadline day.

However, contact between the two clubs may not have stopped there, as according to ESPN, Porto are keen on Lingard.

The English midfielder has fallen down the pecking order in recent years at United. He only scored one Premier League goal last season, and has not featured at all in the current top flight campaign so far.

There may be a chance for Lingard to revive his career abroad, though. While links with a move to Italy over the summer never materialised, he could still end up in Portugal.

ESPN‘s Rob Dawson suggests Porto are “showing interest” in Lingard, with a loan deal most likely.

The 27-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, but United can extend it by a further year.

Lingard’s choice of agent alarms ex-Utd star

Back in late September, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher admitted that “alarm bells” were ringing about Lingard’s future.

That’s because he recently hired Mino Raiola to be his agent – a potential sign that he is looking for a way out of Old Trafford.

“The alarm bells started ringing for me when he appointed Mino Raiola as his agent,” Fletcher said at the time.

“Now you don’t appoint Mino Raiola as your agent if you’re looking at staying at a club.

“That suggests to me that he’s looking for a move. He’s not a starter in Manchester United’s strongest team, he’s a squad player now. Yes, he’s come through the club and he’s been there a long time.

“Maybe, he feels like he is ready for a new challenge and maybe he feels he is at an age now where he needs to be a starter, he can’t be a squad player.

“It will be interesting to see what happens between now and the end of the window.”

And even though the Premier League window has technically now closed, there still could be some activity on the Lingard front.
