Paris Saint-Germain are no closer to signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona, the their priority for now is renewing the contracts of the players already on their books.
Leonardo knows that it won’t be easy to get the Barcelona captain to arrive at the Parc des Princes, and financial considerations have to be made on the club’s part.
“We’re attentive but there’s nothing new at the moment,” Leonardo told RMC Sports when asked about Messi‘s situation.
“The idea is to renew the players that we already have. Nothing outside of that has been planned. We have to look at our financial results for the season too.”
Kylian Mbappe‘s future is up in the air, with the Frenchman heavily linked with Real Madrid, and he’s yet to give PSG an answer in his renewal talks, despite the club’s patience running thin.
“Mbappe has a contract until 2022,” Leonardo said. “That’s the reality. We’re talking about moving forward with his renewal.”
Angel Di Maria is expected to be the first PSG player to renew, ahead of Neymar and Mbappe.
