Inter vs Real Madrid: Eriksen: From being overlooked by Real Madrid to being out of favour at Inter

Inter vs Real Madrid Could leave less than a year after joining

For yet another match, Christian Eriksen watched his Inter teammates from the bench. The Danish playmaker, who has not even been in Italy a year, is looking for a way out of his difficult situation in Milan.

In a few days’ time he will face Real Madrid, likely as a substitute once again, and it’s interesting that Los Blancos are the team which he could have joined if they hadn’t turned their attentions elsewhere.

In January of this year, Eriksen was given a grand welcome at Inter, with his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur considered to be quite the coup as numerous European clubs were chasing his signature. Largely, these sides were conscious of his expiring contract and that saw Spurs obliged to sell for a cut-price fee to avoid losing him for free in the summer.

Real Madrid had been one of Eriksen’s many suitors, but they eventually cooled their interest. The midfielder’s name had been linked with Los Blancos for a few years and the move briefly looked to be on the cards, with genuine interest from both parties.

However, Real Madrid ultimately decided against opening negotiations with the notoriously tricky to deal with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, opting to leave it for a more opportune moment.

That moment never arrived for Real Madrid and Christian Eriksen, but Inter did take advantage of the opportunity which arose in January and the circumstances at the time led the player to sign with the Italian club.

Just a few months down the line, Eriksen has a ‘for sale’ sign around his neck. Inter CEO Beppe Marotta confirmed to DAZN that the Dane is on his way out of the club.

“We shouldn’t retain a player when he asks to be transferred,” said Marotta.

“We’ll have to make the correct evaluations. There haven’t been any offers, but at the right moment we will try to find the right combinations.”

Eriksen hasn’t played a single full game this season and has often found himself on the bench. He has even chalked up a total of three Serie A games without getting on the pitch at all and another in the Champions League, which was the away game against Real Madrid.

With no goals and no assists either, it seems his time in Italy is running out and Eriksen is back on the market.
