James Rodriguez has denied any accusations of bad treatment, arguments or fighting with his teammates in the Colombian national team.

There had been reports this week of a bust-up between James and members of Carlos Queiroz’s squad following Colombia’s 6-1 defeat to Ecuador in World Cup qualifying.

Tensions were already high within the Colombian national team after their 3-0 home defeat to Uruguay last Friday, while the pressure was ramped up after the heavy loss to Ecuador.

“I profoundly refute any information regarding bad treatment, aggression or disputes with other players from the [Colombian] national team,” James wrote in a statement. “The results weren’t what we expected, but the relationship is excellent and respectful.

“There has never been any conflict between members of the dressing room. Those responsible for creating these false stories are out to encourage discord and chaos around my name, which is why I will take legal action where necessary.”
