LaLiga have confirmed that Arsenal have triggered the £45million release clause in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey’s contract, according to a report.

Arsenal have targeted a move for the Ghana international, as well as Houssem Aouar, throughout the transfer window.

However after Aouar went public with the promise of staying at Lyon, Arsenal made their move for Partey.

The Gunners stepped up the chase for the 27-year-old on Monday with Atletico insistent that they would not let him leave for anything less than his release clause.

The reporter says (via Twitter) that LaLiga have confirmed that Arsenal have stepped up their hunt for Partey.

Arsenal have reportedly triggered that clause, in a move confirmed by LaLiga. As such, the deal is edging closer to completion and will go through before Monday’s cut-off.

Indeed in a later tweet, Romano claims that Partey is at Arsenal‘s London Colney training ground completing medical tests.

The midfielder will reportedly sign a five-year contract.

Meanwhile, Lucas Torreira will move from Arsenal to Atletico in a separate deal.

The Uruguay international has fallen down the pecking order and his exit is seen as crucial in getting Partey through the door.

Atletico have had an agreement – including personal terms – over a loan deal for the 23-year-old for some time.

He would be the second Arsenal midfielder to leave on deadline day after Matteo Guendouzi. The Frenchman has moved to Hertha Berlin on until the end of the season and offered an exciting double promise about his ambitions.

He said: “Believe me, the ownership and the board and doing everything they can to maximise the resources and make this club successful. I have 100 per cent backing for them. Whatever we can do, they are willing to do it, to support us.

“Whatever we can add of course we will do it. But we have to be realistic. The people here are supportive.

“Whoever jumps in the boat will be welcome. But we all have a very clear direction and purpose to drive our goals.”
