Levante vs Real Madrid Great game from the Croatian
Luka Modric put in an extraordinary display in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory against Levante.
The Croatian midfielder was one of Los Blancos’ top performers, along with Vinicius Junior, Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois.
In the absence of Toni Kroos in the middle third, Modric was exemplary in dictating the tempo and almost got his name on the scoresheet.
Levante improved after the break after Gonzalo Melero and Jorge de Frutos came off the bench.
However, Courtois was solid between the posts and helped Real Madrid clinch all three points.
Modric did everything on the pitch against Levante and looked anything but a 35-year-old veteran player.
He participated in the first goal, helped in Real Madrid’s high press and provided Sergio Ramos with an assist although the Spaniard’s goal was disallowed.
Another solid outing by Courtois who managed to keep a clean sheet despite a couple of Levante’s clear-cut chances.
The home side came close to scoring with Nikola Vukcevic, whose header crashed against the crossbar.
After the break, the Belgian international produced some great saves.
He managed to stop Enis Bardhi’s effort which deflected off Casemiro and then prevented Carlos Clerc from equalising.
Real Madrid squandered three chances between the 50th and 54th minute of the game.
Modric took advantage of a Levante error in defence and passed to Benzema who hit the bar.
Then, it was Vinicius who missed a couple of big chances to put the game to clinch the victory for Los Blancos.
With both Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola sidelined due to injury, Zidane placed Nacho Fernandez at right-back.
Despite being his first game of the season, the Spaniard was stable in defence, also helping upfront.
Although he may not be happy with his role in the team, he was present when Los Blancos needed him most.
