Tuchel's assistant: I wouldn't have stayed at PSG even if they had asked me to

Thomas Tuchel’s Paris Saint-Germain departure didn’t come as much of a surprise to many people, with tension between the coach and club becoming too much to work around.

Zsolt Low, Tuchel’s assistant in Paris, also followed in leaving the Parc des Princes and never considered any alternative.

“We were surprised on December 23, after winning 4-0 at Strasbourg, that Leonardo told us that Thomas wouldn’t continue,” Low told Nezmeti Sport. “After coming through serious difficulties, having achieved historic successes for the club, it seemed incomprehensible.

“I think it was an achievement to end the year as we did, given the injuries we’ve had and the coronavirus. We overdid ourselves, and that’s the truth.

“I wouldn’t have stayed even if they offered it to me. It wasn’t a thought of mine to not follow Thomas.

“I had the chance to go to Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig as head coach, but I didn’t accept it. When I battle with someone, shoulder to shoulder, I also share the bad times with them. We have a very strong connection; I gave him my word and he trusts me.”
