A vital Liverpool cog and a midfielder Leeds Utd retain a strong interest in have emerged on the January radar of Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The Reds are currently in the midst of a crippling injury crisis.
The long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have taken the headlines. Their midfield, however, has fared little better. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all experienced spells on the treatment table this season.
In contrast, one player who has been an ever-present has been Dutch veteran Georginio Wijnaldum.
The 30-year-old is in the last year of his Anfield contract, however, and no concrete signs of his stay being extended have emerged – despite the rumoured last offer.
Reports surfaced earlier in the week of Antonio Conte’s Inter side registering their interest in the Klopp favourite.
Now, those reports have been backed up by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
The publication (via Goal), note that Wijnaldum would be the perfect candidate for a free agent swoop in the summer.
Owing to his impending free agency, Wijnaldum will be able to negotiate his future direction in January.
Inter plotting raid on Leeds target
Furthermore, the Italian side could be set to cause Leeds Utd a headache over their pursuit of Rodrigo De Paul.
The Argentine, 26, was heavily linked with a switch to Elland Road in the summer.
Recent reports suggested Marcelo Bielsa was aiming to convince the club to launch a fresh approach for the dynamic box-to-box player from Udinese.
Indeed, a Leeds chief moved to confirm the details of their summer interest last week.
Now, Corriere dello Sport (via Goal) have throw a spanner into the works by reporting that the misfielder is ‘said to be of interest’ to the Nerazzurri.
His rumoured asking price of €30m-€35m, would, however, be difficult for Inter to overcome.
