Liverpool, Man Utd lifted in pursuit of £40m target

Liverpool and Manchester have had a major foot up in the race to sign Dayot Upamecano, while there could well be a January firesale at Barcelona, all in the papers.

UPAMECANO RACE

Liverpool and Manchester United’s hopes of landing reported defensive target Dayot Upamecano have been lifted.

Bild report that German giants Bayern Munich are currently unable to sign the central defender.

The reliable German outlet say the 22-year-old is out of the Bundesliga side’s price range.

Bayern have been strongly linked with the RB Leipzig man, who has a £40m release clause which kicks in next summer.

They may well be in desperate need of a defender though with both David Alaba and Jerome Boateng out of contract next June.

Upamecano is believed to be on Jurgen Klopp’s watch list. And according to the Sunday World, Liverpool’s ‘chief’ target is Leipzig’s Frenchman.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also got a chance to see the defender “close up” last month after United”s 5-0 win over Leipzig.
