Ivanisevic: Nadal would have no chance against Djokovic in these conditions at RG

Coach Goran Ivanisevic is super confident that his pupil Novak Djokovic will make the final at Roland Garros as he believes the Serb is the top favorite to win the title, not record 12-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal.

Nadal, who is aiming to lift his fourth consecutive title at the French Open, beat Italian Jannik Sinner to set up a semifinal clash against Argentine Diego Schwartzman. Nadal, seeded at No. 2, and No. 1 seed Djokovic can’t meet before the final.

The conditions at the French Open have never been more challenging and Ivanisevic believes these current condition suit better Djokovic than Nadal. “I’m counting on Novak – Nadal in the final, in which, in my opinion, Nadal has no chance in these conditions, on this clay and with Novak, who has got into his head.

I went a little too far, but in my opinion Novak is the number one favorite. He brought his body, his head and preparation to perfection. He prepares everything in detail, from tactics, technique, to nutrition, and he adheres to it.

That’s the most important thing because I couldn’t stick to half of it, but he knows it makes him better, he wants to progress every day and it’s very interesting to work with him because he wants something better every day, at least 0.00001 percent, but something has to be happening, I have never seen such a mentality in my life,” Ivanisevic told HRT, as quoted on Sport Klub.

Djokovic tipped Nadal as the No. 1 favorite

Just before the French Open, Djokovic made it all the way at the Rome Masters after besting Schwartzman in the final. Two rounds earlier, Schwartzman stunned Nadal in straight sets on the clay of Rome.

After winning the Rome title, Djokovic said Nadal was still the top favorite for the French Open title. “Well, as I said, you know, it’s Nadal. Even though he lost this week, I still think, you know, a lot of people will agree, he’s the No.

1 favorite and, you know, the record that he has there, the history of his results, you just can’t put anybody in front of him,” Djokovic said in his press conference after beating Schwartzman. “But, you know, definitely Diego showed that Nadal is beatable on clay.

The conditions that they played on, obviously heavy clay, not much bounce, humid, night session, we are going to have that, as well, in Paris.”
