Real Madrid are now close to completing a deal to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich, with the player’s contract expiring on June 30, which means he is now free to speak to other clubs.

Bayern had given the Austrian international permission to contact other sides when talks between Alaba and his current club collapsed, which was reportedly 200,000 euros a week.

“We had a lot of conversations, but we wanted answers from him by the end of October,” Rummenige said when talks ended.

“This didn’t happen and I don’t know if we’ll return to the negotiations. What I want to be clear about is that our offer showed exactly how much we value him, but he didn’t accept it.”

From that point Real Madrid made their intentions to sign the player clear, and they are now favourite to land Alaba given the economic situation of many clubs.

With the opportunity to sign one of the best defenders in Europe on a free transfer meansReal Madrid will look to seal the deal as soon as possible.

In fact, MARCA have learned that Real Madrid have made a concrete offer to Alaba of 10 million euros a season for four years, as they look to stave off interest from other top European clubs.

As previously reported on MARCA, Real Madrid have always held a player like Alaba in high regard with the player extremely keen to join Los Blancos and play in Spain.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has also given his blessing for the move as Alaba in seen as an excellent acquisition given his ability to play left-back, as well as centre back, thus meaning he can provide competition for Raphael Varane plus he could be a potential replacement for Sergio Ramos when he leaves the club.

Alaba, 28, is valued at 65 million euros by Transfermarkt and has proven experience at the top level. Playing 404 games for Bayern, scoring 39 goals and having a hand in another 49. He has also never been sent off – only receiving 17 yellow cards – and with Varane could form a ‘clean’ central defensive pairing.
