Vinicius Junior seems as though he has fallen back down Zinedine Zidane’s pecking order, following his absence against Eibar due to gastroenteritis.
The Brazilian forward has lost his spot in the starting line-up to Marco Asensio, who has started in Real Madrid’s last three matches against Granada, Elche and Celta Vigo.
Despite being key in the period when Real Madrid were in desperate need of wins following some poor performances and results in LaLiga Santander and Europe, Vinicius has not started in Los Blancos’ last four matches.
He didn’t train before the game against Eibar and was excluded from the squad to face the Basques, before playing 12 minutes against Granada, five against Elche and four against Celta.
Meanwhile, the recent displays and goals of Lucas Vazquez and Asensio have helped both establish themselves in Real Madrid’s starting XI.
Vinicius has not participated in just two LaLiga Santander matches so far this season while, before the match against Eibar, he had started in eight of Real Madrid’s 13 matches.
Moreover, in matches such as the ones against Alaves, Villarreal and Real Valladolid, when he came off the bench, he played for half an hour.
The 20-year-old has scored two goals and has provided two assists in LaLiga Santander in 2020/21.
Vinicius’ objective this year is to find consistency and avoid those ups and downs he experienced last season at Real Madrid.
