Real Madrid – La Liga In space of just 40 days
Zinedine Zidane expressed on Friday his frustration with regard to Real Madrid’s congested schedule heading into the new year, as Los Blancos will have to play as many as 11 games in a matter of 40 days.
There will be no Christmas break this season, while Saturday’s match away to Villarreal will be the first of the eight LaLiga Santander duels that Real Madrid will play in this final stretch of the calendar year.
Wednesday’s match against Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will be the first of the three Champions League fixtures that Los Blancos will play in the next three weeks.
Then they will take on Alaves, before playing against Shakhtar Donetsk on December 1, four days ahead of their tough encounter against Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
Next up will be Real Madrid’s Champions League duel with Borussia Monchengladbach on December 9, and three days later they will host Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.
Two games on the road against Eibar (December 20) and Elche (December 30), as well as a home match with Granada (December 23, will round off the year for Zidane’s men.
“I think that all coaches need to feel that they are heard,” Zidane said during his press conference on Friday ahead of Real Madrid’s match with Villarreal. “We have had a meeting between coaches to try to change something, and today I say what I feel.
“I talk about the health of the players and also about football in the games, because to give a good show, the health of the players is important. It is not only training. Recovery is very important and there is no time [available to do so]. I wanted to talk about that today and that’s it.”
Real Madrid currently find themselves in fourth position in LaLiga Santander after having played eight out of a possible nine games, with Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid in first, second and third respectively. La Real and the Yellow Submarine have both played nine games, while Los Rojiblancos have played seven.
