Trump supporters try to occupy the Capitol

Donald Trump supporters have stormed the US Capitol Building, breaking down security barriers and fighting with federal police.

In addition to those attempting to occupy the Capitol, some 30,000 people who had attended Trump’s rally remain surrounding the building.

The incident is taking place at the very time when Congress is debating November’s election results as part of the process of officialising Joe Biden’s victory.
